“What batters you becomes your strength.”

– Rainer Maria Rilke

Psalm 51:3-4, 12-13, 14-15
Have mercy on me, O God, in your goodness;
in the greatness of your compassion wipe out my offense.
Thoroughly wash me from my guilt
and of my sin cleanse me.
A clean heart create for me, O God,
and a steadfast spirit renew within me.
Cast me not out from your presence,
and your Holy Spirit take not from me.
Give me back the joy of your salvation,
and a willing spirit sustain in me.
I will teach transgressors your ways,
and sinners shall return to you.

Reflection Questions

  1. What muddy part of me am I seeking cleansing?
  2. In the reflection Jeffrey and his friends painted themselves purple for Mudderella. In Ecuador the rains set the stage for the “way of the cross”. What has prepared me for the muddy journey?
  3. Do I have a “steadfast spirit”? Where does it come from?
